Unit 7: Similarity
Welcome back from our unexpected break! It is strange that we only had class one day last week.
This week, we will try to continue where we left off. This week, we will talk about the similarity that exists within triangles and similarity transformations. During the week, we will also have a formative check-in to make sure that we are on the right track. We will finish off the week by talking about self-similarity and taking a look at fractals.

What's Going On? January 28th through February 1st
Unit 7: Similarity
This week we will continue our study of similarity. We will start the week by talking about similarity right triangles. Students should expect to see a formative early in the week so that we can determine our current level of understanding. Later in the week, we will talk about proportionality relationships that exist within triangles, such as which relationships exist when an angle bisector is drawn in a triangle.

Welcome to Second Semester!
We are now starting our second semester, so that means that everyone is starting with a clean slate. Students have been doing a wonderful job completing homework and asking questions. Let's keep it up during our second half of the year!
This Week's Schedule
Students will not have school on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Enjoy your time away and be
ready to start second semester well-rested! This means that Wednesday through Friday will be "purple schedule" days. We will start school at 7:35 each day and see every class with the exception of AE. Since this is a new semester, please check your schedules in Infinite Campus to make sure that you are going to the correct classroom. Please see your guidance counselor if you have any problems with your new schedule.
Unit 7: Similarity
This week, we will focus on similar figures. During class on Wednesday, we will talk about ratio and proportion. For the rest of the week, we will talk about how we can determine if two figures are similar. We will also learn some shortcuts to show us that two triangles are similar.

Our exam will be held on Wednesday from 9:30-11:00. DO NOT BE LATE!!!! During our exam time, students will be required to complete the exam sections covering the following learning targets:
- 1d: Properties of Parallel Lines
- 1e: Proving Triangles Congruent
- 2a: Writing Equations of Lines
Students will also choose a minimum of two additional learning targets:
- 1a: Basic Geometric Vocabulary
- 1b: Logical Reasoning
- 1c: Constructions
- 2c: Quadrilaterals
- 3a: Segment and Angle Addition Postulate
- 3c: Solving for Missing Measures
For the exam, students should bring something to write with and a calculator. Students planning on completing the 1c section of the exam on constructions should also bring a compass and ruler. Students are also permitted to bring a "cheat sheet". This "cheat sheet" can be as large as an 8 1/2" by 11" piece of paper and can be handwritten on both sides. Students can include formulas, definitions, sample problems, etc. on this sheet. The "cheat sheet" will be handed in at the end of the exam period. Students are expected to complete the exam by the end of the specified exam period.
Extra Help
In the mornings during exam week, I will be available to work with students and answer any last minute questions. Please stop by to get your questions answered!
January Exam Schedule
Please note: buses will run at their regularly scheduled time. Students are not required to be at school during the review/conferencing time. This is an excellent time for students to get some extra help from teachers prior to their exams.

What's Going On? January 7th through January 11th
1st Semester Project
This week, students will continue working in their small groups on their chosen learning target in preparation for our semester exam. This small group is responsible for helping the rest of the class prepare for that section of the semester exam. The group will need to summarize all of the importation information for their topic, will need to write and solve 8 homework-style questions, as well as put together a review activity for the rest of the class to do. In the past, students have created board games, stations, Castle Attack, Kahoots, and other games to help us review. Once the groups have prepared their review, the rest of the class will participate in the review activity and complete the group-created homework questions. Group presentations will begin during class on Wednesday.
January Exam Schedule
Here is our exam schedule for January. We will talk in detail about the exam at the end of this week.
