What's Going On? February 28th through March 4th

Thought for the Week

Unit 8: Triangles and Trionometry

This week, we will continue with our study of triangles and trigonometry.  We will start off the week with a short formative to make sure we understand the underlying principles of right triangle trigonometry (SOH CAH TOA).  After this, we will take a look at how we can solve for missing sides and angles in non-right triangles.  The tools we will use for this include the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines.

What's Going On? February 21st through February 25th

 Thought for the Week

Unit 8: Triangles and Trigonometry

This week, our primary focus will be on using SOH CAH TOA trig ratios in order to solve for missing side and angle measurements in triangles.  Then we will use our trig ratios to solve application problems (aka word problems). Students will check in with a short formative on right triangle trigonometry during class on Wednesday.  We will end the week by addressing non-right triangles and the Law of Sines.

As a reminder, students are encouraged to come in for JIT before school and/or during lunch to ask questions and get some extra help!

What's Going On? February 14th through February 17th

 Thought for the Week

It's a Short Week!
We will have an early release day on Thursday and NO SCHOOL on Friday.  Due to this shortened week, our schedule will look a bit different.  Monday will be a Tuesday-style schedule, Tuesday will be a Wednesday-style schedule, Wednesday will be a Thursday-style schedule, and Thursday will be a shorted Friday-style schedule.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Wednesday, February 16th

Our last Parent-Teacher Conference of the 2021-2022 school year will be held on 2/16/22 from 5:00-7:00 PM. The results of a parent survey indicated our families preferred scheduled conferences. Please visit this link to sign up for a time to meet!  You can find my sign-up under the "Math" tab.

Unit 8: Right Triangles and Trigonometry

During this short week, we will start our eighth unit of the year on right triangles and trigonometry.  Our focus for our three days of class will be on the Pythagorean Theorem and Special Right Triangle patterns (Isosceles Right triangles and 30-60-90 triangles).  We will end the week with a formative to check our level of understanding before we move on to the right triangle trigonometry portion of our unit.

Winter Spirit Week

Show your Northstar spirit and participate in the dress-up days this week!

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Wednesday, February 16th

Unit 7: Similarity

We will start this week by talking about similarity transformations (dilations) and self-similarity.  We will end the week with a review and our first summative of the year on Similarity.  Students should be prepared to answer questions about similar figures, similar triangles, and similarity transformations.

As always, students are welcome to come into room 300 before school and/or during our lunchtime JIT!
