What's Going On? February 3rd through February 7th

Unit 7: Similarity

This week, we will continue our study of similarity. We will start off the week by investigating similarity within triangles.  For the first two days of the week, we will investigate right triangle similarity.  We will also investigate proportionality within triangles and end the week studying dilations.  Students should expect to see a formative assessment or two this week to check our current level of understanding.  Please check Infinite Campus to make sure that students are up to date with assignments.  Students who are interested in earning a retake for the summative must have all formative work (including homework) complete by the day of our summative assessment.

What's Going On? January 28th through January 31st

Unit 7: Similarity

As we begin our second semester, we will dive into the topic of similar figures.  We will start off the week examining what it means for two figures to be similar.  Then we will transition to focusing specifically on showing that two triangles are similar by using some triangle similarity shortcuts.  Students should expect to see a formative this week so we can check our level of understanding and make sure that we are beginning our second semester on the right path!

What's Going On? January 13th through January 17th

Final Project Presentations

This week, students will be presenting their final projects.  For this, students have created a 10-15 minute review activity to help the class prepare for a learning target on the semester exam.  Students also created a "one-stop shopping" document to summarize all of the content for the target and wrote an 8 question homework assignment with an answer key that will serve as homework for the class.

What's Going On? January 2nd and January 3rd

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a relaxing break and had some time to relax and rejuvenate as we prepare to finish our first semester.

1st Semester Project

For the two days we will see each other this week, students will be working together on their first semester projects.  Prior to the break, students had the opportunity to choose their preferred topics.  I took into account student preferences and assigned groups based on the feedback.  Students will be working in their assigned groups on their assigned topic to help the rest of the class get ready for the final exam.  For the project, students will prepare a "one-stop shopping document" that includes all of the definitions, formulas, and concisely summarizes the topic.  Students will prepare a short 10-15 minute review game to help us to practice the concept.  In the past, students have created a "Castle Attack" game, Kahoot, a board game, and other activities to make our review time engaging.  Finally, students will also write 8 practice problems and provide an answer key for the review questions.  These practice problems will serve as homework for the rest of the class.

Planning Ahead

Our final exam will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd from 9:30-11:00am.  Details about the exam will be discussed as we get closer to the exam date.
