What's Going On? March 2nd through March 6th

Modified Schedule: ACT Tuesday, March 3rd

On Tuesday, March 3, 2020 North will host an ACT test.  All sophomores and juniors will report to school at 7:30am on Tuesday for the ACT.  The sophomores will complete a practice ACT test while the juniors will complete the official test.  All other students (freshmen and seniors) will have the day off of school on Tuesday.

Due to the ACT on Tuesday, we will have a modification for our schedule at the beginning of the week.  Monday will be a "Tuesday"-style schedule.  This means that the school day will begin at 7:35am for students in CCR/JIT and at 8:10 for all other students.

Wrapping Up Unit 8: Triangles

This week, we will wrap up our 8th unit on triangles.  We will spend Monday's class working on non-right triangle trigonometry word problems.  We will spend Wednesday's class reviewing for our summative and complete the summative assessment on Thursday.  There will be two major targets for our test:

  • 3d: I can solve for measures in right triangles
  • 3h: I can solve for measures in non-right triangles

I will be available for extra help on Wednesday and Thursday morning from 7-8am in room 300 if students would like to stop by to get extra help.

Students who have all of their formative work completed before we take the summative assessment may be eligible for a retake if things don't go as planned.

What's Going On? February 24th through February 28th

Early Release: February 28th

On Friday, students will have an early release day.  We will meet with our usual Friday classes, but for a shortened period of time.  Our last class ends at 12:05.  After that, students are welcome to stay at school for lunch or leave the building.  The busses will leave school at 1:12.

Continuing with Unit 8: Solving for Measures in Triangles

At the beginning of this week, we will continue our study of right triangle trigonometry.  We will apply our knowledge of the trig ratios SOH CAH TOA to solve for missing side lengths and angle measures in real-world problems.  At the end of the week, we will start working with non-right triangles.  For this, we will apply the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines.  Students should expect to see a couple of formatives this week so we can make sure that we're all on the right track.

What's Going On? February 17th through February 21st

Unit 8: Solving for Missing Measures in Triangles

This week, we will continue our study of triangles.  We will start off the week by investigating the properties of "special right triangles".  We will use the pattern relationships that exist within Isosceles Right Triangles (45-45-90) and 30-60-90 triangles in order to solve for missing measures.

Later in the week, we will dive into some right triangle trigonometry ratios.  Students will learn how to use the ratios of sine, cosine, and tangent in order to solve for missing side lengths and missing angle measures in right triangles.  To make sure that we are starting this unit on the right foot, students will complete a formative assessment or two.

What's Going On? February 10th through February 14th

Wrapping Up Unit 7: Similarity

This week, we will be wrapping up our first unit of the semester on similarity.  We will spend Monday's class looking at self-similarity and learning a little about the vocabulary associated with creating a fractal.

During class on Tuesday, we will review for our summative and complete the actual summative during class on Wednesday.  In order to be summative retake eligible, students must have all formative work (including homework) completed before we begin the summative.   Students who need some additional help, are invited to come in before school.  I am available each day from 7:00-7:30am and on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 7:00-8:00am.

During class on Thursday, we will begin our eighth unit.  We will focus our study on the Pythagorean Theorem.
